Fertility health check in London

At Kensington International Clinic, we support hundreds of women and couples every year who simply want to take stock of their fertility, without necessarily being engaged in a formal treatment pathway. A fertility health check answers precisely that need: a thorough, rigorous assessment carried out in a single visit, giving you a clear and objective picture of your ovarian reserve and reproductive health.

Our private clinic brings together practitioners trained in France, the United Kingdom and internationally. Our fertility health check service is led by Dr Rami Wakim, a gynaecologist and reproductive medicine specialist whose 25 years of expertise cover the full spectrum of female fertility.

What is a fertility health check?

A fertility health check, or fertility assessment, is a medical evaluation that measures your reproductive capacity at a given point in time. Unlike a treatment pathway (IVF, insemination), it assumes no prior difficulty conceiving: it is designed for any woman, or any couple, who wishes to have reliable information before making decisions.

In practical terms, the check-up combines 3 complementary examinations carried out in a single consultation: a thorough medical interview with your gynaecologist, a pelvic ultrasound to visualise the condition of your ovaries and uterus, and a hormonal blood panel to measure your ovarian reserve.

Together, these three components give a far richer reading than any one of them taken in isolation!

Following the assessment, Dr Wakim provides you with a clear written summary and discusses the results with you, explaining what they mean for your personal situation: recommended timeframe before conception, relevance of preventive egg freezing, any signs to monitor, or simple reassurance that everything is on track for a medium-term project.

Who is a fertility assessment for?

The Kensington Clinic fertility health check is relevant in a wide range of situations, which do not necessarily involve difficulty conceiving:

Medium-term family planning

You are considering pregnancy within the next 1 to 3 years and want to make sure everything is in order before you start trying.

Considering fertility preservation

You are weighing up the option of egg freezing and looking for objective data to help you decide.

Family history

Early menopause in your mother or sister, endometriosis, recurrent ovarian cysts: these factors deserve a proper review.

Irregular cycles

Absent, spaced or unusually heavy periods; these signs may point to a hormonal imbalance or an underlying condition worth identifying early.

Age over 35

Egg quality and quantity evolve with age, and an assessment helps inform your decisions from this threshold onwards.

Actively trying to conceive

For women under 35, after 12 months of unprotected intercourse without pregnancy; for women aged 35 and over, after 6 months. The check-up helps determine whether further specialist investigation is warranted.

Recurrent miscarriage

A fertility health check is a useful first step ahead of a more specific work-up (Dr Wakim also offers a dedicated Recurrent Miscarriage Profile).

In every case, the intent remains the same: to give you the information you need to decide calmly, without pressure or drama.

Dr Rami Wakim

Dr Rami Wakim is one of the leading figures in reproductive medicine in London. Trained at Ain-Shams University in Cairo, he specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology across several hospitals around the world before joining the prestigious Rizk Hospital in Beirut, where, from the 1990s onwards, he developed in-depth expertise in in-vitro fertilisation.

A Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists since 2000 (FRCOG), he went on to complete his fertility training through two clinical fellowships at University College London Hospital (UCLH) and Imperial College London. Over 25 years of practice, he has collaborated with some of the most respected centres in the United Kingdom: IVF Hammersmith, the Assisted Reproduction and Gynaecology Centre (ARGC), Harley Street Fertility Clinic, Create Fertility, Gennet City Fertility and Reproductive Health Group.

His international accreditations (MD, FRCOG, FACOG, FICS) and his fluency in English, French and Arabic make him one of the few practitioners in London able to support the French-speaking and Arabic-speaking communities in their mother tongue, on a subject that calls for absolute trust.

FAQ

At what age should I have a fertility health check?

There is no single ideal age.

A first check-up around the age of 30 is often relevant when motherhood is being considered in the medium term. From 35 onwards, the assessment becomes particularly useful, as ovarian reserve evolves more rapidly. It is also advisable earlier in the presence of a family history of early menopause or endometriosis.

Ideally, FSH, LH and Oestradiol blood tests are carried out between days 2 and 4 of the cycle, and progesterone around day 21. AMH, on the other hand, can be measured at any point in the cycle.

No.

The pelvic ultrasound is painless and the blood draw is a routine procedure. The medical interview with Dr Wakim is structured but attentive, never intrusive.

Yes.

At Kensington International Clinic, we propose a fertility couple consultation (30 minutes, £300) that allows both partners’ histories to be reviewed, the male partner to be referred for a semen analysis if appropriate, and a shared conception plan to be built together. As a reminder, infertility is of male origin in around one third of cases.

No.

It is a high-quality first-line evaluation that points towards complementary investigations whenever they are deemed necessary. If results are inconclusive or a specific condition is suspected, Dr Wakim will guide you through the appropriate next steps.
