Do you need to get a gynaecologic appointment ?
A gynaecological appointment can be considered at any age and for many reasons. In our private clinic in London, beyond the annual routine check-up, we also recommend to book one for :
- Routine gynaecological follow-up: cervical smear, HPV screening, breast examination, contraception review;
- Contraception: choice, fitting and monitoring (pill, coil, implant);
- Menstrual cycle disorders: heavy periods, painful periods, irregular cycles, bleeding between periods;
- Chronic or recurrent pelvic pain;
- Gynaecological conditions: endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS);
- Trying to conceive and fertility assessment;
- Pregnancy monitoring: ultrasound scans, antenatal consultations, childbirth support;
- Postnatal period: check-up, contraception, rehabilitation;
- Menopause and perimenopause: hot flushes, sleep disturbance, vaginal dryness, support with hormone replacement therapy;
- Sexual health: screening for sexually transmitted infections, post-screening follow-up, emergency contraception;
- Prolapse and urinary incontinence;
- Breast condition screening and follow-up.
In each of these situations, the consultation begins with attentive listening and an appropriate clinical examination. The latter may lead, during the same appointment, to further investigations carried out in our clinic.
What to expect during your gynaecology appointment ?
A first gynaecological consultation with us lasts between 30 and 45 minutes, giving us the time needed to cover your full medical history and concerns. It generally unfolds in four stages:
Medical interview
Your gynaecologist gathers your gynaecological and general history, including past medical conditions, current treatments, cycles, contraception, family history, and whether or not you are planning a pregnancy;
Clinical examination
Tailored to the reason for your consultation (pelvic examination, breast examination, abdominal palpation);
In-clinic investigations
Depending on your needs, your practitioner may perform a pelvic ultrasound, a smear test, an HPV test, swabs for infection screening, or a coil insertion or removal during the same appointment;
Summary and follow-up plan
Any results available immediately are discussed at the end of the consultation. A follow-up or treatment plan is proposed, with prescriptions, reports and referrals where needed recovery of range of motion. It can be an effective alternative to surgery or manipulation under anaesthetic in selected cases.
If you are unsure whether your situation warrants an appointment, call our reception team: they will advise you honestly.

This continuity of care means our patients are looked after by the same practitioner, from the diagnostic appointment through to surgery and post-operative follow-up.
