Private neuropsychologist in London

Neuropsychological assessment

At Kensington International Clinic, neuropsychology sits at the intersection of our mental health department and our multidisciplinary medical approach. Located in central London, our private clinic brings together practitioners trained in France and in the United Kingdom, with a shared ambition: offering the London community rigorous cognitive care, available in French as well as in English.

Our neuropsychology service is led by two experienced practitioners: Aboubakar Wane, a neuropsychologist qualified at Université Paris Cité, and Laurène Lahierre, a clinical psychologist with training in neuropsychology. They work in coordination with Dr Joe Datt, Consultant Paediatrician specialising in child neurodevelopment, for paediatric assessments where this is appropriate.

What is a neuropsychological assessment?

Neuropsychology is a branch of clinical psychology that studies how the brain and nervous system shape our day-to-day cognitive functioning: memory, attention, language, reasoning, executive functions, visuospatial perception.

Unlike brain imaging, which focuses on the structures of the brain, neuropsychology focuses on how they actually function. A neuropsychological assessment uses standardised tests to objectively measure a person’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses, to identify the nature of a difficulty and to inform recommendations: cognitive rehabilitation, educational or workplace adjustments, psychological support, medical follow-up.

This type of assessment is particularly useful when the difficulties experienced go beyond what a clinical interview or ongoing therapy can identify on its own.

Meet our private private French-speaking neuropsychologists in London

The private neuropsychology service at Kensington International Clinic is led by two French-speaking practitioners with complementary backgrounds.

A bilingual French and English practice

One of the defining features of Kensington International Clinic is offering London’s French community direct access to French-speaking neuropsychologists, trained within the French university system and fully fluent in English; this makes a real difference in the context of a neuropsychological assessment, where the precision of vocabulary, the subtlety of emotional nuance and a working knowledge of the relevant school systems directly influence the quality of the assessment and the relevance of the recommendations.

Dr. Joe Datt

Neurodevelopmental paediatrics, Dr Joe Datt's speciality

For families consulting on behalf of their child, Kensington International Clinic offers a coordinated pathway between neuropsychological assessment and specialist paediatric consultation, led by Dr Joe Datt. He is a Consultant Paediatrician, a graduate of the University of East Anglia School of Medicine (MBBS), holder of a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine from the University of Oxford, and a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (FFPM) of the Royal College of Physicians (2024).

He brings 17 years of experience within the NHS in paediatrics and neonatology!

His expertise covers neurodevelopmental assessments in children up to 18 years old, the follow-up of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, learning difficulties and rare paediatric conditions. His approach is medical and holistic, and is designed to complement, not to replace, the cognitive assessment carried out by our neuropsychologists.

When should you consult a neuropsychologist?

Neuropsychology

A neuropsychological assessment is appropriate whenever a cognitive, academic, professional or emotional difficulty deserves to be objectively examined. At our private clinic, the most common reasons for consultation are the following:

Giftedness

(high intellectual potential) in children or adults: assessment of an atypical cognitive profile, often associated with emotional hypersensitivity or a sense of being out of step with others

Executive function difficulties

persistent challenges with organisation, planning, time management or decision-making

Attention and concentration difficulties

assessment of attentional mechanisms and their functional impact (excluding the formal diagnosis of ADHD, which is covered on our dedicated page)

Memory difficulties

recent memory complaints, senior cognitive assessment, concerns about early cognitive decline

Learning difficulties

dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, dysorthography, assessment of children or adolescents struggling at school

Cognitive assessment

after traumatic brain injury or stroke: objective measurement of cognitive after-effects, referral towards appropriate rehabilitation

Cognitive impact

of anxiety or depression: assessment of cognitive functions affected by a mental health condition, to better target therapeutic support

Educational, academic or professional guidance

cognitive skills assessment to support a study or career project.

In every case, the assessment culminates in a detailed written report, delivered during a feedback session, with concrete and personalised recommendations.
