At Kensington International Clinic, our team of gynaecologists trained in France and the United Kingdom welcomes you in the heart of London, a short walk from South Kensington, in a discreet and elegant setting designed to preserve each patient’s privacy. Founded in 2011 by a group of French doctors based in London, our private clinic has one clear objective: to provide high-quality medical consultations in each patient’s mother tongue.
When it comes to women’s health, this commitment takes on its full meaning. Speaking about your body, your cycle or your fertility in your own language profoundly changes the quality of the medical dialogue, and with it the quality of care.
A multidisciplinary team of
private gynaecologists
in London
To deliver the best possible care to every patient, our team of French-speaking gynaecologists in London is here to listen at every stage of a woman’s life.
Dr. Emily Kara : bilingual gynaecologist and general practitioner
Dr Emily Kara embodies the French-British profile so often sought by our French-speaking patients. Educated in France before medical school, she graduated from the University of Oxford in 2004 and speaks fluent French and English. She obtained her Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2008, her Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in 2014, as well as the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRCOG), which qualifies her to carry out all routine gynaecological consultations.
Her clinical career is international: after practising at a surgery in Notting Hill, she moved to Asia in 2014 to care for French-speaking and English-speaking expatriate communities in Beijing and then Shanghai, where she served as Deputy Director of the Family Medicine Fellowship Program at Jiahui International Hospital in 2021, before a further posting in Singapore. She joined Kensington International Clinic in 2025, bringing over 20 years of experience in preventive medicine and women’s health.
In Kensington International Clinic, Dr Kara handles routine gynaecological follow-up consultations: annual check-ups, contraception, cervical screening, endometriosis management, and menopause support. Her dual GP-gynaecologist profile makes her particularly well-suited to families and patients seeking continuity of care over the long term.
Dr Rami Wakim, a French-speaking and Arabic-speaking specialist
Dr Rami Wakim has been a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 2010 and brings over 25 years of experience in the field. A British doctor of Lebanese descent, trained at Ain Shams University in Cairo, he obtained his MRCOG in 2000 before becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG), a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS). He has also completed clinical fellowships at University College London Hospital (UCLH) and Imperial College London.
His academic profile is equally strong: Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford and Senior Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, he also contributes to the training of future British gynaecologists as faculty for the MRCOG Part 3 examination. He is a member of the British Fertility Society, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) and the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG).
At our private clinic, Dr Wakim consults in French, Arabic and English. He handles general gynaecology consultations and focuses particularly on fertility-related concerns: hormonal assessments, fertility work-ups, and support with parental projects. The details of his practice in reproductive medicine are developed on our fertility consultation page.

FAQ
When should I book a gynaecology appointment?
- Routine gynaecological follow-up: annual check-up, cervical smear, breast examination, HPV screening
- Menstrual cycle disorders: irregular, heavy, absent or painful periods (dysmenorrhoea)
- Contraception: prescription, IUD placement or removal, pill, implant, choosing the right method
- Pelvic pain: acute or chronic, of gynaecological origin requiring investigation
- Endometriosis and adenomyosis: diagnosis, follow-up and surgical referral where needed
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): diagnosis, hormonal assessment, multidisciplinary support
- Fibroids and ovarian cysts: monitoring, assessment, therapeutic guidance
- Menopause and perimenopause: hot flushes, sleep disturbance, evaluation of hormone replacement therapy
- Recurrent gynaecological infections: recurrent thrush, bacterial vaginosis, STI screening
- Urinary incontinence and prolapse: assessment and management
- Pregnancy follow-up: 2D/3D ultrasound, early and late pregnancy monitoring, postnatal checks
- Fertility assessment: in collaboration with our fertility specialist
For each of these reasons, our gynaecologists can carry out most diagnostic examinations in-house and, where needed, arrange surgical care at our partner hospitals (London Bridge Hospital, Princess Grace Hospital).
What is the difference between a gynaecologist and an obstetrician?
Gynaecology covers the health of the female reproductive system outside of pregnancy, while obstetrics covers pregnancy follow-up, delivery and the postnatal period.
In practice, most consultants are trained in both disciplines and hold the title of “Obstetrician and Gynaecologist”. This is the case for Dr Wakim, allowing the clinic to deliver a continuum of care from routine gynaecological follow-up through to the earliest pregnancy ultrasounds.
Can I choose my private gynaecologist?
Yes.
Each of our gynaecologists has their own areas of focus: Dr Kara for comprehensive French-British follow-up care combining general practice and gynaecology, and Dr Wakim for hormonal and fertility-related concerns. If you are unsure, our front desk can direct you to the practitioner best suited to your reason for consultation.
