At Kensington International Clinic, psychotherapy is designed as a dedicated space for care, shaped around the realities of people who live, work or settle in London.
Located just a short walk from South Kensington and Knightsbridge, our private clinic brings together three bilingual French and English practitioners, trained in Paris, London and internationally, to support adults, young adults, adolescents, children and couples through life’s challenges.
Psychotherapist, psychologist or psychiatrist : what is the difference?
These three professions are often confused, yet their training, remit and tools are distinct; knowing which professional to consult is the first step towards the most suitable care.
A psychotherapist is a practitioner trained in therapeutic work through conversation. Their role is to help you make sense of your emotional, relational or existential difficulties, and to support lasting change in your thought patterns, your relationships with others and your relationship with yourself. At our private clinic, our specialists are trained in a range of complementary approaches.
A clinical psychologist holds a university degree in psychology and can, in addition to psychotherapy, carry out psychological, cognitive or neuropsychological assessments. This is the professional to consult when a diagnostic evaluation is needed, for example in the context of ADHD, attention disorders or learning difficulties.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor specialising in mental health. They are qualified to make a psychiatric diagnosis, prescribe medication and oversee the treatment of conditions that require medical management, such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia spectrum disorders or severe depression.
When should you consult a psychotherapist?
The most common reasons for consulting our psychotherapists include:
Anxiety and chronic stress
Panic attacks, generalised anxiety, phobias, obsessive thoughts, rumination
Depression and mood disorders
Persistent sadness, loss of drive, feelings of emptiness, sleep disturbance, dark thoughts
Trauma
Accidents, bereavement, breakups, violence, relational trauma from childhood, post-traumatic stress
Professional burnout
Harassment and bullying: exhaustion, loss of meaning, relational conflict at work
Relationship difficulties and couple therapy
Recurring tensions, blocked communication, jealousy, infidelity, divorce, anger management
Self-confidence and imposter syndrome
Fear of failure, fear of change, overwhelming self-criticism
Expat experience
Cultural shock, isolation, integration difficulties, third-culture children and their specific challenges
Perinatal and parenting concerns
Baby blues, postnatal depression, traumatic childbirth, parenting struggles
Psychological distress
Linked to a physical illness: support for patients facing a serious medical condition
Children and adolescents
School anxiety, social phobia, bullying, low self-esteem, oppositional behaviour, sleep difficulties
⚠️ In case of emergency or suicidal thoughts: private psychotherapy is not suitable for acute crisis situations. If you or someone close to you is going through an urgent situation, please call the Samaritans on 116 123 (free and confidential, 24/7), dial NHS 111, or go to the nearest A&E department.
Our French-speaking team at Kensington International Clinic
Our three psychotherapists are all bilingual in English and French. Each brings specific clinical expertise and an international background, making them trusted practitioners for the French-speaking community in London as well as for our international patients.
Anne de Montarlot
Holding a Master’s degree from the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling in London and a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), Anne de Montarlot has been working as a psychotherapist in London since 2014. She also lectures at the NSPC and at Richmond American University in London, and co-directs Re-Solution Partnership.
Her integrative, humanistic approach draws on cognitive behavioural therapy within a climate of confidential, non-judgmental listening. She works with adults and young adults (aged 18 and over) on a wide range of concerns: anxiety, depression, trauma, professional burnout, harassment, relationship conflict, lack of self-confidence, existential questioning and life transitions. She also sees couples and families, and has developed specific expertise around perinatal issues and emotional eating.
She consults in English and French.
Laurène Lahierre
Holding a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the École des Psychologues Praticiens (2008) and a diploma in Neuropsychology from Université Paris VI (2014), Laurène Lahierre has been practising for 15 years. After seven years in Paris working with both children and adults, she spent eight years in Singapore within the expat community and in educational institutions. She joined our private clinic on her arrival in London.
Her integrative approach draws on several therapeutic traditions: psychoanalysis, transactional analysis and cognitive behavioural therapy. She is also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and EMDR, enabling her to work effectively with patients affected by trauma.
She consults in English and French.
Adeline O'Flynn
A graduate of the École des Arts Thérapies (EAT) in Paris, Adeline O’Flynn has been practising as a psychotherapist for over 12 years, with private practices in Paris, Harley Street and Notting Hill. She has been providing psychological support to patients at the Institut Curie in Paris since 2009. She also holds a Professional Diploma in Health & Social Care, obtained in the United Kingdom following her work with London care organisations (SweetTree, Lookahead).
Our specialist works with adults and young adults (from age 16), as well as with expat families. She is particularly recognised for her work with highly sensitive, high-potential and ADHD profiles, in close collaboration with psychiatrists and child psychiatrists whenever appropriate.
She consults in English.
